L – Shaped Building in East Sussex

This client had some land and wanted an eco friendly building to live in, built on his land. After drawings were agreed, UK building regulations complied with and a pretty lengthy planning application process Nordic Wood could start building their new home.

What the client said:

We had bought some land in East Sussex on which we wanted to build a single storey, eco-friendly timber house. Following a recommendation from a friend, we contacted Nordic Wood and subsequently met with Dan Burr who manages one of the build-teams and inspected the site and then Olaf Eklo, MD of Nordic Wood who advised us on how we might proceed. We found Olaf both inspiring and positive from the outset and this was reflected throughout the entire build. We had only an idea of what we wanted but no practical experience or knowledge of self-builds but with enormous patience, understanding and an amazing capacity for making it all happen, he guided us through. The build began in May 2014 and in four hassle-free months we had a beautiful 4 bedroom detached eco-friendly house that is stronger and more beautiful than we could have imagined. The build team consisted of Dan and Johan who were extraordinarily talented craftsmen with good humour and an incredible work ethic who we came to know and genuinely like during the build. When a problem arose or a decision had to be made, either Dan or Olaf were extremely clear on options and creative solutions that quickly and easily resolved. On many occasions both Dan and Johan were on site till well after dark working to reach a critical stage. Olaf kept us informed of costs and the build schedule throughout with deliveries and general administration totally under control throughout while Dan and Johan built an incredible structure while keeping the site clean and tidy. A year on since moving in and the house gets better and better. Without any teething problems at all and superb after-care service from Olaf, we couldn’t have wished for a more enjoyable, exciting and fundamentally well-built house.
