NORDIC NEWS November 2024

We had a great day at Woking Means Business on October 9th. Our stand looked fantastic if we do say so ourselves. This is Kristian having a very in-depth conversation about the benefits of a home office in your garden with Ken Prince from Ken Prince Coaching. http://www.kenprincecoaching.co.uk

Being at an exhibition gives us a great opportunity to meet hundreds of business owners and talk them through how having a Nordic Room in your garden offers a unique blend of practicality and wellness.

Here are five top benefits of setting up your workspace in the garden:

1. Enhanced Productivity

Separation of Work and Home Life: Working in a dedicated garden office helps create a distinct boundary between home and work, reducing home-life distractions and allowing more focused work.

Reduced Commute Stress: Simply stepping into your garden minimises commute time and costs, giving you more energy and time for productive work.

2. Improved Mental Well-Being

Nature Exposure: Studies show that being close to nature reduces stress and anxiety, boosting mood and cognitive performance. The greenery and natural light of a garden office can enhance focus, relaxation, and overall mental health.

Fresh Air and Natural Light: Unlike typical home offices, garden offices often have large windows and better ventilation, providing fresh air and sunlight for a healthier work environment.

3. Increased Creativity

Inspiring Environment: Being surrounded by nature fosters creativity and can lead to more innovative problem-solving. The sounds, sights, and colours of a garden are known to stimulate creative thinking.

Customisable Space: A garden office is often a blank slate, allowing you to design a space that suits your work style and inspires you, which can lead to higher-quality work.

4. Cost Efficiency

Saves Money on Office Rentals: A garden office is a one-time investment that can significantly reduce or eliminate the need for rented office space.

Lower Energy Bills: Our garden offices are designed to be energy-efficient, with natural insulation and lighting that reduce heating and electricity costs.

5. Property Value Boost

Home Investment: A garden office can increase your home’s appeal and value if you decide to sell. Buyers often find the extra space useful for remote work, a studio, or even a guest room, making your property more attractive.

Versatility for Future Use: Even if your needs change, a garden office can easily be repurposed, adding lasting value to your home and lifestyle.

A garden office not only supports a healthy work-life balance but also provides an inspiring, cost-effective space that enhances your property.

Kristian was interviewed recently about Nordic Rooms journey.
Starting as a summer holiday project and a seed of an idea in Norway, where Kristian’s family had a log cabin holiday home, Nordic Room has evolved into a successful business in the UK.

Home Worker Ticking Time Bomb

March 2020 and Covid-19 Lockdown, Working from Home? People now working from home at their dining table, sofa, or bed and a few from their home office.

People began to work from home in places that were not ideal. Then the ticking time bomb started! Work-related discomfort has become a major problem (Lower and upper back aches, headaches, eye strain, neck aches, shoulders, wrists, etc, are just a selection of the issues). Many people have also experienced long-term musculoskeletal discomfort. This has resulted in a rush for home office equipment and furniture online. Suddenly, every furniture company was a ‘Home Office’ specialist?

So what’s changed?

Previously, working in the office, fitted out with properly designed furniture and seating, and suddenly working from home, often sitting on furniture not designed for working, there was a much higher risk of work-related discomfort. The change to home working meant that a majority of people were provided with laptops and were expected to set up the rest of their home office themselves without any understanding of the requirements to ensure a healthy working setup. So suddenly, we were at home utilising products designed with style in mind but with little thought concerning the user’s comfort.

Common issues in the home office?

Desks

Many home office desks are higher than standard office desks, and desktops are often shallower, resulting in a lack of suitable working space. Another common issue seen on many home office desks is a large drawer under the desktop, resulting in the user lowering their chair to get their legs under the drawer and then having to lift their shoulders to use their keyboard.

Chairs

People who were working from dining chairs, sofas or beds, unfortunately, found out the hard way that they were not suitable for prolonged work. Then, many of the chairs bought online during lockdown lack the necessary basic functionality to provide the support required.

Laptops

It is one of the most commonly used devices in our home offices. When used on their own without a separate keyboard and mouse or laptop stand, it results in forward tilting of the head and a massive increase in stress/strain on the upper back and neck, potentially causing headaches and longer-term health issues if not addressed. There are several simple ways to address these problems if you are aware of the options!

So, don’t just sit there and suffer! Get expert advice from us at Healthy Home & Office and resolve your ticking time bomb!

NORDIC ROOM CUSTOMER TESTIMONIAL

Kris and the team at Nordic Room were excellent from the very start. We wanted a flexible office space to improve our property and they talked us through various options and provided a plan that met our needs. The quote was clear, accurate and competitive and meant there were no surprises. The build was efficient and completed on time. We use the office on a daily basis and it has made a huge difference to our house. It’s a space we can use all year round thanks to the insulation and heating included in the build. We are very happy we chose Nordic Room and we would highly recommend them!
