FAQ
Do I need planning permission?
Our Nordic Rooms normally falls within the Permitted Development Rights but can in cases where a Planning Application is necessary, be adapted to suit the particular garden’s requirements.
If in doubt, call your local planning authority to make an enquiry. It is ultimately the responsibility of the owner to comply with regulations. For more information on Planning Applications and Permitted Development Rights go to:

What type of base should my timber building be constructed on?
Included in all our standard quotes is a concrete point foundation or ground screws installed by us. We feel this is a better option to a full concrete foundation as it retains the natural drainage of your garden, it’s also quicker & cheaper. A full slab is also unnecessary as a timber frame is classified as a lightweight structure. Your site should be prepared by you and made flat before we start building.

Can I build my own Nordic Room/timber building?
Our timber frame constructions are not suitable for DIY and should be built by Nordic Room’s trained carpenters.
Will my Nordic Room require exterior finishing?
All Nordic Rooms are externally clad with Thermowood, known for it’s range of impressive benefits such as its enhanced thermal properties, making it an excellent insulator, reducing heat loss and providing energy efficiency. Additionally, the thermal treatment process used to create Thermowood enhances its dimensional stability reducing the need for frequent maintenance or replacements. Thermowood’s increased resistance to moisture, decay, and insects makes it an excellent choice for outdoor applications such as decking, cladding, and garden rooms.
Do I need to paint the internal walls?
Included in all our Nordic Rooms is a Norwegian Smartpanel wall system that comes in a wide variety of colours. The Panels are made from natural wood fibres that are compressed and fused together in a heat and water process. The process does not use any other additives or glue making it an ideal eco conscious choice and a healthy alternative to plasterboard.
How long is delivery?
The lead time for a Nordic Room is approximately 6–8 weeks from the date the purchase agreement is signed and the deposit is paid. During this time, we place orders for windows and doors from Denmark, as these components have the longest lead time. The scheduled build time will then depend on the next available slot with our carpenter teams.
What are the payment terms?
On signing of the contract we require a 50% deposit to order materials and allocate a build schedule. The remaining 50% is then payable when all the materials are on site, approximately when the building is 90% completed. Labour is charged weekly during construction.
