The cricket pavilion in Blackheath is almost done now:

Nordic Wood has been commissioned to build a new Cricket Pavilion in Blackheath, London at the newly revamped Army Academy – The Academy.
The Pavilion will be the new home for the Blackheath Cricket Club.

Keen to keep the cricketing tradition alive, Durkan Estates, which bought the former army college in 2006, approached various local sporting organisations to enquire whether any club or organisation in the local area would wish to restore the neglected cricket ground. A historic pitch where, back in 1899, E.J. Collins achieved the highest score ever recorded in a game of cricket – 628 not out.

Jonathan Dean Investment Director, Durkan Estates said: “We recognised that the Cricket Pitch was a real jewel in the crown in terms of its significance to the Academy’s heritage and London’s cricketing history; as well as its future value for residents, local cricketers, clubs and the local community. We were willing to offer the ground on a long lease for a peppercorn rent to a local club with the means and vision to revive and maintain this sporting tradition and who was willing to provide access to Sports for Schools.”

Step forward Blackheath Cricket Club which, having become the largest playing club in the UK with 13 senior league teams, seized the opportunity. Thanks to its enterprising efforts to involve the local community, the club was looking for a second ground in addition to its home ground at The Rectory Field, Charlton Road, Blackheath, SE3 7EY.
